Throwback Thursday: Grecian Braid

As we are focusing on pretty summer looks this month, today’s Throwback Thursday focuses on the Grecian braid.

Vanity was certainly existent during the ancient Greek ages. It was a time of flawless perfection and extravagant luxury. Women often wore braids with soft curls to create a much more feminine feel.

Despite the braids absence from our catwalks for a while, it appears that the Grecian braid is a staple hairstyle to the cosmopolitan female. It has been captured at a variety of runway shows and is set to be a hot look for A/W 2012 season. Grecian inspired hairstyles were found on popular A/W2012 shows including Fendi and Emilio Pucci.

If you feel like giving the look a try don’t just stick to the conventional circular braid across your hair edges. This season the Grecian braid has been given a much harder look for autumn. Plaits are being plaited across the crown and combined with dead straight hair or relaxed waves. Feel free to customise it so that it is completely yours. Enhance braids with colour and pre-cut layers in your hair for further texture in the braid. Experiment with different styles of braiding two strands, three strands or fishtail. Finally, take a leaf out of Fendi’s book and don’t be scared to double up on the braid for a spectacular evening look.
